Electronic Arts, the developer behind the American football video game Madden 23, said it likely wouldn't be able to "restore" up to 60% of gamers' cloud saves after an unplanned outage earlier in the week.
Fans are shocked that only 40% of cloud-saved franchises will be recoverable. And most lost franchise data is unrecoverable despite best efforts. The dire situation was caused by a server crash that prevented gamers from logging in during New Year's Eve, from December 28th to 29th. Anyone who tried to do this in this period could permanently lose their saves of the popular franchise.
The company is trying to console the fans. In particular, the developers said that "40 percent of the leagues will be restored", but this is certainly not enough for the players. Fans are incredibly outraged that the support team advised them to log in during the first server problems. However, this was a bad idea. The developers are actively working on a solution to the problem. However, despite all efforts, only some things can be restored.
Next week, according to the company, an updated timeline will be posted on restoring files from a backup. Players are offered to play again, and they promise that there will be no such problems in the future. There is no mention of any compensation for those affected gamers. But maybe everything is still ahead because there were a lot of outraged reviews from fans of the game.
