The new Octopath Traveler 2 caused great disappointment among Japanese gamers

Alas, the video game, released in Japan, gained little popularity. At the very least, sales of the game were very disappointing to its creators. So, the release of the sequel to the famous role-playing video game from Square Enix took place the previous month, on February 24th. As it became known, only 78,000 copies of the novelty were sold on PS4 and 5 and Nintendo Switch in the first week. Unfortunately, the game was the second most unsuccessful release among Team Asano's new releases. Retail sales in Japan were disappointing. Recall that the first place in this anti-rating was taken by the game Live A Live last year - then only 71,000 copies were sold. However, this game was released only on Nintendo Switch, while players were offered to buy Octopath Traveler 2 on both Nintendo Switch and PS.

The failure of the game made Square Enix very upset. It is unknown why this happened because, in general, the novelty significantly improves the original video game, but it failed to surpass the original version in terms of sales. It is important to note that this is the only multi-platform game developed by Team Asano.

Recall that the original role-playing game Octopath Traveler was developed by Square Enix in conjunction with Acquire. The release took place first for the Nintendo Switch in 2018. After that, the novelty was released for other platforms.
