Everything You Should Know About The Last of Us Movie

The Last of Us is the upcoming series that adapts the plot of the same-name game franchise for the big screens. The main plot will not differ from its origin: it is a story about a father and a daughter trying to survive in the post-apocalyptic USA. They will face different trials and understand that sometimes people are more dangerous than mutants. 

The series will be announced on the HBO MAX streaming service. Naughty Dog, PlayStation Productions, Sony Pictures Television, Word Games are responsible for the production of the episodes. 

Is The Announcement Date Clear?

There is no definite information about The Last of Us movie release date. However, we can definitely claim that the release will be in 2022. At first, the most cautious fans noticed that the IMDB put the year in the description. Then, Bella Ramsey proved the information by posting a relevant image in her Instagram account. 

Bella Ramsey will stand as Elle, a protagonist’s daughter in the first game and the main character of the second part. Answering the question “when does The Last of Us movie come out?”, we predict the late summer or fall of 2022 when the hottest episode releases come out. 

The Last of US Movie Team

Though the main plot details and features of the upcoming project are not clear or professionally covered, we know much about the team of the project. The Last of Us movie has got many professionals working with it. Let’s start with the creator of the pilot episode - a Russian director, Kantemir Balagov. He has become famous for the Western audience due to the Oscar short-list nomination for his movie Beanpole. The filming of the first episode was over in August 2021, and Kantemir was very positive about it on his social media. The other crew members include:

• The main characters are played by Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey. Both actors have already worked on the same project, Game of Thrones. Pedro Pascal was the famous Red Serpent, and Bella player an episodic but very memorable role of Lyanna Mormont. 

The Internet users admitted that Pedro Pascal was an ideal choice due to his similarity with the game character. However, they doubted Bella Ramsey. “I hope Bella Ramsey will master her role, as she does not look like Ellie entirely” - that is how some Twitter users reacted to the cast announcement.

• The responsibility for the plot was divided between naughty Dog and HBO. From the side of the game, developer stands Neil Druckmann, a narrative director of the game franchise. HBO asked Craig Mazin, an author of the Chernobyl series, to support the project. 

• Recurring and guest actors will include Merle Dandridge as Marlene, a leader of Fireflies, Jeffrey Pierce as Perry, a rebel in the quarantine zone, and Anna Torv as Tess. Merle Dandridge will reprise her role from the game. As we can see, the plot of the movie will not tell us a different story we’ve seen in the video game. 

The main part of the filming took place in Canada. Alberta, Calgary, and Edmonton will replace the post-apocalyptic USA state of Wyoming. Santaolalla will be responsible for the music arrangement of the scenes. 

Conclusions

Though The Last of Us movie news does not please us with diversity, some conclusions can be made. $100 million of the budget let us predict that it will be a tough movie, but not the best one made ever. Internet users hope that the project will avoid the problems the game faces. Despite lots of Game of the Year awards, players remained unsatisfied with the plot twists and narration in The Last of Us 2. Plus, let us never forget the overall “success” of movies and episodes shot after video games (recall WoW, Assassin’s Creed, Max Payne, or Hitman). 

The very existence of such movies is still questioned. The game-dev sphere manages to tell a perfect story and supply it with the player’s actions. Movies deprive a player of the essential choices and give them a single point of view. We hope The Last of Us will avoid the essential issues, but we are not sure about it.
