Starfield Could Launch on PS5 With Second Expansion in 2025, According to Xbox Insiders

The whispers are growing louder: Starfield, Bethesda's sprawling space RPG, might be setting course for PlayStation 5. While Xbox and Bethesda remain tight-lipped, insider reports suggest a second expansion, slated for 2025, could be the catalyst for this long-rumored port.

Shattered Space and a Shattered PlayStation Dream (For Now?)

According to The Verge's Tom Warren, speaking on the Xbox Two podcast, a PS5 version of Starfield was initially planned to coincide with the Shattered Space expansion's release in September 2024. "They were originally going to do it with that expansion, and then I don't know what happened there," Warren stated, adding that the PS5 version has been in development and "should be ready." This fuels speculation that the second Starfield expansion, due in 2025, will be the chosen launch window for the PlayStation port. While Xbox head Phil Spencer hasn't confirmed the rumors, he hasn't denied them either, leaving the door tantalizingly ajar.

Halo: Master Chief Collection on PlayStation? Don't Get Your Hopes Up (Yet)

The same podcast also addressed the persistent rumors of Halo: The Master Chief Collection gracing PlayStation and Nintendo Switch. Unfortunately, Warren poured cold water on these hopes, stating, "I don't know if it's going to be [the] collection," and suggesting a more limited release. He cryptically hinted at his previous reporting on "the CE stuff," referring to a potential Halo: Combat Evolved remake. This implies that while Halo content might eventually reach other platforms, it’s more likely to be in the form of individual remakes or reimagined titles rather than the full collection. These developments coincide with Microsoft's increasing willingness to share its first-party titles. Hi-Fi Rush, Sea of Thieves, and Pentiment have already made the jump to PlayStation, demonstrating a shift in strategy. If Starfield does indeed land on PS5, it would be the biggest Xbox exclusive to cross the platform divide, potentially signaling a bolder multi-platform future for major Bethesda titles. Could this be the beginning of a new era of intergalactic cooperation, or just another flicker in the nebula of gaming rumors? Only time will tell.
