The latest and the sole DLC for "Elden Ring" has grabbed the gaming community's attention by scoring an impressive 95 out of 100, making it the best-rated DLC ever. This achievement beats the earlier record of 92 points held by the "Blood and Wine" add-on of "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt". "Shadow of the Erdtree" also matches the score of "The Final Shape" for "Destiny 2," showing how well it has been received.
Before players can dive into the rich new content, they must complete critical challenges within the core game. Accessing the expansion requires defeating two major bosses. These encounters are pivotal, as they unlock the gateway to the new adventures awaiting in the expansion. Players can find Radahn at Redmane Castle during the Radahn Festival, which is accessible through various quests or by simply arriving in the area. Mohg can be confronted in Mohgywn Palace, reached either through following Varré’s questline or using a special teleporter.
After defeating the required bosses, players are introduced to a new character, Leda, who is found near a significant cocoon in the boss arena of Mohg. Leda directs players to interact with a withered arm extending from the cocoon, which transports them to the realm of shadow, where the character Miquella the Kind resides. This action begins the journey in "Shadow of the Erdtree," starting in the eerie Gravesite Plain. This DLC not only expands the narrative and world of "Elden Ring" but also enriches the gameplay experience, making it a landmark addition to the game's universe.
