Elden Ring Was Highly Appreciated By George Martin

Recently, the main director of Elden Ring Hidetaka Miyazaki had a large interview with Edge. The developer revealed a lot of interesting facts related to his wonderful project.

Starting the interview, Miyazaki revealed his excitement of working with famous writer George R. R. Martin. The developer was surprised that Martin has that deep understanding of the Dark Souls franchise and its lore. In his turn, George Martin wrote that he is satisfied with the collaboration with the Japanese game developer as well and the project is going to be great. Martin and Miyazaki met in real life to work on the project in the United States.

Miyazaki and FromSoftware decided to make George Martin focus on the original setting of the future game. So, the writer didn’t work on a plot or even game text as his mission was to create something completely new. Another interesting fact of the development of Elden Ring is that Martin wasn’t provided any already made materials or concepts, only some rough sketches of what kind of game the developers want to create. In this way, George has almost complete creative freedom to create a new world, its history, secrets, and many others! Knowing already legendary Game of Thrones, something huge is coming!

Nevertheless, Miyazaki’s team wasn’t limited to George Martin fantasy only as they actively drew inspiration from already classic Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings, Michael Moorcock's The Eternal Warrior, and numerous tabletop RPGs.

Among the questions was the presence of any similarity between Elden Ring and Ring of Omnipotence. Miyazaki denied any direct connections explaining that Elden Ring is something more metaphorical, unclear, and abstract.

Talking about an open world featuring the title, Miyazaki confirmed that it was developed in the same way as in all the previous projects developed by the studio. Nevertheless, the game designer is not sure if such a decision was good, but it’s at least reliable. Miyazaki stated, that the world will be pretty interactive and full of cool features making players not feel bored.

According to Hidetaka, the graphics of the game wasn’t the main priority of the studio. Nevertheless, it’s going to be the most beautiful project created by the studio and the results of the work are completely satisfied him. The main idea of the title is to provide a player with freedom within the game.

Elden Ring will be released this February on PC and consoles.
