Upcoming Economic Overhaul in Cities: Skylines 2

The team behind Cities: Skylines 2, a popular city-building game, is rolling out a big update to fix a major issue with high rent that has bothered players since the game came out last year. They plan to eliminate the "virtual landlord," which is part of how the game calculates rent. This problem has been annoying because it keeps telling players that the people living in their cities can't afford their houses, interrupting the game and making it less fun. Players have tried to solve this by making more jobs or building more houses, but now the developers have a better solution.

Changes to How Rent Works

The upcoming update will change how rent works in the game. Now, everyone living in a building will share the cost of keeping it up, which is fairer than before. Also, how much rent people pay will depend on how much money they make. If they don't make enough money to cover the rent, they'll start using less water and electricity instead of just complaining about it. This is supposed to make the game feel more real, even though it's a bit strange to think about.

Keeping Buildings in Good Shape

The update isn't just about rent; it also changes how buildings are maintained. Now, both families and businesses need to pay for their buildings' upkeep, which affects how nice the buildings are. If they can't pay, the buildings will worsen and fall apart. This adds a new layer of strategy to the game because players must ensure buildings are kept up. The developers have said that old game saves will still work after the update, but it might take some time for everything to adjust. Players are hopeful about these changes because it means fewer annoying rent notifications. The update should be ready in the next two weeks, and it will make building and running cities in the game much smoother and more enjoyable.
