Anno 117: Pax Romana Marches Onto Consoles for a Day-One Global Launch

Ubisoft is taking its celebrated city-building series further back in time than ever before, officially unveiling Anno 117: Pax Romana, which is scheduled to release on November 13, 2025. The reveal confirms the series' first venture into the Roman Empire, placing players in the role of a Governor tasked with expanding the empire's domain. However, the most significant conquest is a strategic one for the franchise itself: for the first time, an Anno title will launch simultaneously on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. This unified launch signals a pivotal new era for the historically PC-centric series, promising to bring its deep economic simulation to a much wider audience right from the start.

A Governor's Choice: Latium or Albion

The core experience of Anno 117 is built around a crucial choice players must make: which province to govern. You can select the sun-drenched heartland of Latium for a classic Roman city-building experience or venture to the misty, untamed Celtic wetlands of Albion. Creative Director Manuel Reinher described this choice as a way to provide the expected Roman fantasy while also including "surprises to break with established expectations." This decision is more than cosmetic; governing Latium will involve mastering traditional Roman production chains, while Albion will challenge players to engage with different cultures, deciding whether to impose Roman ways or integrate local traditions.

An Empire Built for Everyone

The commitment to a day-one console release is the headline news. Learning from the successful but delayed console port of Anno 1800, Ubisoft is developing Anno 117 from the ground up with both controller and keyboard-and-mouse players in mind. This involves creating distinct user interfaces, such as a radial construction menu for controllers, to ensure the game's notorious complexity remains accessible without compromise. The team also confirmed that feedback from the Anno 1800 Console Edition was instrumental, leading to features like full mouse and keyboard support on PS5 and a commitment to release all Season Pass content across all platforms.

Peace Through Strategy

While the game is named for the "Roman Peace," governing will require more than just expert city planning. Reinher confirmed the return of land combat, a feature absent for over a decade, calling it an essential component to "deliver on the full fantasy" of the Roman Empire. The narrative also explores the "untold story of the multicultural Rome," focusing on how the empire managed to unite its diverse provinces. This suggests that diplomacy and cultural management will be just as crucial as the might of your legions, offering players multiple paths to establishing a prosperous Roman province.

A New Golden Age for Anno

Anno 117: Pax Romana is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious entries in the venerable series. By embracing the iconic Roman setting, offering meaningful strategic choices through its dual-province system, and committing to a unified launch across PC and consoles, Ubisoft is making a clear statement about the future of the franchise. The roads of the empire, it seems, will finally be open to everyone when the game launches this fall.
