25 Games for PlayStation 5 Are in Development. Half of Them Are New IP

Great news for all the users of PS5! Right now, Sony develops 25 games. The more interesting fact that besides already known sequels of famous and successful franchises, there will be ten or more than ten completely new IPs. Fans can except for diverse titles of different genres and sizes.

According to the recent Wired interview, the head of PlayStation’s Worldwide Studios Hermen Hulst stated, that Sony cooperates with some outside studious and will announce a lot of new titles soon. Nevertheless, there is no information on when these games will be released. For today, we know that such titles as God of War: Ragnarok, Gran Turismo 7, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Horizon Forbidden West, and some other Sony first-party games are confirmed, but none of them is a new IP. It doesn’t even clear what players can expect from future secret releases. The only revealed detail is that the games will differ from each other a lot by their types and size. Not each of them will be a big game, so it may mean that their development won’t take a lot of time.

Considering the cooperation with outside studious, some of the secret titles may be indie games. Also, it wasn’t confirmed that the games will be exclusives only. Taking into account that some fresh PlayStation Studios titles are available not only on PS5, but also on PS4, Xbox, and PC, it may be a hint to the future course of Sony.

Does it mean that development of upcoming games by outside developers is a bad sign? Not at all. It’s not the first time Sony uses such a strategy. Moreover, it has already shown some good outcomes. For example, Returnal was developed by Housemarque. The title is undeniably high-quality that immediately received a lot of positive feedback from fans and critics as well. Summarizing the latest investments and cooperation of PlayStation, it is expected that some of the new IPs will be developed by Haven Studios and Ember Lab. Moreover, the last one is already making a new interesting title called Kena: Bridge of Spirits that will be released this year. Mentioned studious are very promising and are likely to make successful projects for Sony.

Perhaps, we’ll have to wait pretty long to get new details and releases. Sony delays the development of some of their upcoming games, so all the secret IPs may be pushed back for years or even the whole decades.
