A brand new title developed by the Warsaw studio 11Bit, Frostpunk is a one and only real time strategy combining a city builder and a survival game. The game represents a new genre, called “society survival”. Lead a group of moribund people, trying to stand up to the overarching permafrost.
The Ice Age is back…
Having exterminated the majority of human beings, the returning Ice Age completely redefined the everyday life of those who survived. Gathered together, they have to establish some forms of society once again, developing new customs, laws, and habits that will help them survive.
The steam-powered technology with heat generators allows them to oppose the overwhelming cold. However the further from the generator, the slighter chances for surviving, both for people, who suffer serious illnesses, and machinery, which tends to break down.
Welcome to a gloomy, post-apocalyptic reality where heat means life and every decision is paid dearly. Chosen as the mayor of the last city on Earth you will face an extremely challenging task of rebuilding the society and securing the means necessary for your people to survive.
Become the ruler of a 19th century city
Manage both the citizens and the infrastructure they live in, providing your citizens with the best you can give—hope for survival. Build housing for your people, raise industrial buildings (especially coal mines), hospitals, shelters, or dining facilities.
Be responsible for the laws applied and economic decisions taken, having in mind that virtually every decision you take will have its side-effects. Decide on the working routines of your people, their healthcare, food supplies, and many other crucial aspects of everyday life.
Frequently the moral dilemma you’ll face will be a tough nut to crack. You will have to decide whether a children-involving accident in a coal mine is an adequate reason to suspend the extraction for the given day or will such move bring disastrous consequences for the whole society.
Frostpunk gameplay asks a simple question: what are people going to do when they are pushed to the limit?
Explore the permafrost
With establishing New London as your ultimate goal, don’t forget about its neighbourhood as well. The ice cap can actually hold much more than is available within the limits of your city.
Explore the surrounding terrains, sending your crew on expeditions which can bring some inimitable benefits—unique intel, precious supplies, new members of the community etc. Focus on technological developments, as survival demands progress.
Pay attention to short-term needs, however remember about the long-term prospects as well, and invest in technological process. Pursue automation, as every device which can unburden your people is worth its weight in gold.
